Every kid from Russia knows that song about a Christmas Tree – it’s sort of Russian Jingle Bells. I reharmonized it a bit. An interesting thing for me was to use a couple of chord substitutions with 9th chords: I played D9 instead of Dm or Dm7, and Bb9 instead of F. Related files […]
This melody is my Melody of 2011. I love it!
This is a song from the Russian musical Nord-Ost written by my favorite composers and songwriters Alexey Ivaschenko and Georgy Vasiliev. It was a very successful musical until it was attacked by terrorists in 2002. You can find more information about Nord Ost here.
I’ve arranged for fingerstyle guitar and recorded at home a nice tune “Winter Walk” by Russian songwriter Alexey Ivashchenko. He is famous in Russia and well-known abroad among Russian-speaking people. He is a professional actor, a member of a musical duo Ivasi, a solo author and performer, and a producer of Russian musicals Nord-Ost and An Ordinary Miracle. His melodies and harmonies are very warm and beautiful, and this song is not an exception. His performances are great shows for people who like good songs and good guitar music.
Here is my arrangement of the Shakespeare’s Sonnet 102, My love is strengthen’d. A composer Mikhael Tariverdiev wrote beauteful music for that sonnet. It was one of the nicest songs performed by trio Meridian in Russia in the 80th. The harmony of this song is relatively easy. It’s in C Major with the pretty standard chord progression I-VI-II-V-I. In this arrangement, I used more or less advanced chords only on the bridge at 1:40. It is Gm6add9 with bass on the 4th string (E) with further transition to Gm6/E followed by A7 and Dm7 chords.
Here is my version of Angela’s Ballad by russian composer Mikhael Tariverdiev. It’s rarely performed these days even in Russia. I used it to show how Takamine TF740FS sounds unplugged & unprocessed. Recorded with Zoom Q3HD. My post about TF740FS is here: Takamine TF740FS Review P.S. How would you call this style of music? Is it celtic? […]
